Darius McKay
Principal
Darius McKay combines his faith with his leadership experience, creating a unique blend of inspiring change by empowering people. His passions include making an uncompromising lasting impact on today's youth and educators. Understanding that our educational system and job market have dramatically changed, being prepared educationally and emotionally is of the upmost importance.
Darius was fortunate to receive a baseball scholarship and played on a championship baseball team as a shortstop/second baseman for the UAH Chargers for 4 years. Darius graduated with a B. S. in Biological Sciences from the University of Alabama in Huntsville in 2000. UAH is ranked by U.S. News and World Report as the best value for a student's investment in the state of Alabama. Darius received a Masters in Educational Leadership from Salem University in Salem, WV in 2007. He most recently received a Certificate In School Management and Leadership from Harvard University in 2018.
He has served as an educator for the last 20 years and has been a school administrator for the last 14 years. His belief is that every student can be successful regardless of their background, economic situation or family dynamic. Every student has the aptitude and ability to achieve their wildest dreams!
He is the President of Christian Brothers Network, Inc., a faith-based non-profit organization that awarded over $50,000 in scholarships to students over the last few years. He is a proud member of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc since Spring 1996; He is also a board member for the Saliba Center For Families and an advisory board member for Kingdom College.
He’s also a member of Greater Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church where Pastor Delvick McKay is the Senior Pastor.
Dr. Tamela Brand
Assistant Principal
Dr. Tamela Brand is the Assistant Principal at Morris Slingluff Elementary School. She was previously an Instructional Coach for 2 years and a classroom teacher for 19 years. Dr. Brand has been a classroom teacher for 3 years at Morris Slingluff Elementary School and had the honor of being named Teacher of the Year. Dr. Brand has a Doctorate of Education (Ed.D.) in Educational Leadership (P-12) from Samford University. She also has an Education Specialist Degree (Ed.S.) in Instructional Leadership (P-12), a Master’s Degree in Instructional Leadership (P-12), a Master’s Degree in Elementary Education (K-6), and a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education (K-6) from Troy University. Dr. Brand also holds certifications in Early Childhood Education (P-3) and Secondary English Language Arts (6-12). Dr. Brand is a National Board Certified Teacher (NBCT) in the area of Literacy: Reading-Language Arts for Early and Middle Childhood (Ages 3-12).
Dr. Brand is married and her husband is also an educator. She and her husband have 2 children and as a family they are very active in their church and community.
